Each month, our district recognizes an outstanding member of Team FCPS who makes a difference in students’ lives and embodies the five key characteristics of a Kids’ Champion: innovation, advocacy, empathy, knowledge, and a positive attitude. For January, our award winner is math teacher Cody Foster of Tates Creek Middle School, who exemplifies what it means to go above and beyond for students and colleagues.

Superintendent Demetrus Liggins surprised Foster at school this week with balloons and the Kids’ Champion award. The Fayette County Board of Education will also salute him at their Jan. 27 action meeting.

The person who submitted the nomination wrote: “Cody has gone above and beyond this school year. During the start of the year, a sixth-grade math teacher took a position at another school, leaving their classes without a permanent teacher. Cody took the initiative to ask our head principal to take over sixth-grade classes on top of his seventh-grade classes. His new schedule has him working all nine periods! The students are all showing promising growth. He loves these kids, and he loves his job, and it shows very clearly.”

If you know a Kids’ Champion who advocates for students and fosters a positive environment where all can thrive, you can nominate them for this districtwide recognition.
